Stylists.
The brain-trust that make celebrities and rock-stars look amazing.
And we normal women keep wondering…HOW DO THEY DO THAT?
Well, I’m going to share with you the TOP 12 FASHION SECRETS FROM STYLISTS.
(I guarantee at least one or two will surprise you, and many aren’t what you would think.)
12 Fashion Secrets Stylists Don’t Want You To Know
1. PEOPLE JUDGE YOU BY YOUR CLOTHING
If I’ve learned one thing, the reality is that people do judge a book by its cover. If you are “phoning-it-in”, you will most likely not be taken as seriously as someone who is more put-together.
2. TOO MUCH TIME SPENT ON CHOOSING AN OUTFIT CAN RUIN YOUR DAY
Not enough people have heard of decision fatigue. Decision fatigue is the result of making too many decisions during the course of the day. All of these little decisions add up and actually drain the brain of decision-making power as the day progresses. So don’t waste your brainpower in the morning trying to get dressed. Instead, get rid of things you can’t or don’t wear regularly and simplify your wardrobe to pieces you like. Keep your clothing simple, allowing yourself to have the energy to tackle life’s tougher problems.
3. STICK TO THE BASICS
For most people, it helps to stick to a basic color palette and then go crazy with outstanding accent pieces.
4. LESS IS MORE
Look for styles and fabrics that reduce bulk and showcase your waist. Tailored pieces and stretchy fabrics that hug and accentuate your frame will bring out the natural lines of your body shape. More often than not, extra fabric just means extra visual weight.
5. FASHION AND STYLE ARE NOT THE SAME THING
‘Fashion’ is the tangible clothes, the ones you see in stores, in magazines, and on celebrities. Style, however, is intangible. Style is how you take the fashion and interpret it into an outfit or look that makes you feel like you. It’s not all about the fashion or trends but rather accepting yourself, working with what flatters your figure, finding what tickles your fancy, and wearing what makes you feel confident.
6. YOU’RE NOT DRESSED WITHOUT ACCESSORIES
I wish people knew how important accessories are in style. Jeans and a tee-shirt are just that until you add all the fun details that punctuate personal style.
7. TRENDS ARE SUGGESTIONS AND NOT RULES
Don’t purchase a trend if it doesn’t flatter your body type or go with your personal style. Personal style is about taking clothes that work with your body and adding in a few trends as unique ways to express your individuality. It is not about being a clone and looking like everyone else.
8. HAVING A FAT DAY? WEAR YOUR FAVORITE COLOR
Just like when you were in kindergarten…wearing your favorite color is a mood boost. You will always be confident when you wear a color that looks great on you.
9. IF YOU HAVE TO ADJUST IT MORE THAN ONCE, PUT IT BACK
If you are unsure about a piece of clothing, ask yourself if you’ve had to adjust it more than once when trying it on. If you have, it’s not for you. Clothing should fit and be comfortable.
10. DON’T HIDE. HIGHLIGHT.
Dress to show off your body’s most flattering, favorite areas instead of dressing to hide the areas you don’t love. Not only will you look great, but it will help you appreciate the good things about your body instead of worrying about the “problems”.
11. BODY TYPE RULES DON’T CARE ABOUT SIZE
Body type rules are the rules regardless if you are a size 4 or 16. It’s all about using clothes to create proportion, balance, and silhouette. Plus, when you feel good in the clothes you are wearing, your confidence shines through. Love what you are wearing, and everyone will notice.
12. KNOWING WHAT YOU HATE IS AS IMPORTANT AS KNOWING WHAT YOU LOVE.
Fashion is supposed to be fun, not frustrating. The key to finding a personal style is to wear items that make you feel comfortable and confident.
